About our internships

Our farm is open to high school and college student interns during the spring, summer, and fall. Interns can work part-time, or full-time, depending on availability. Our program offers students the ability to tailor internships to their specific interests, so interns can explore a variety of specialized topics under the guidance of our staff.

Note: We are not able to provide any monetary compensation for interns, but can work with you to secure funding from your institution. When available, paid internships at Martha’s Community Farm are offered through partner organizations, to see currently available paid internships, click here.

Agricultural interns will work alongside the farm staff to produce food for the food pantry. Ideal for students interested in food security and regenerative farming.

Responsibilities

• Assist with farming tasks  

  • Crop planning 

  • Field preparation 

  • Planting, weeding, harvesting

  • Pest prevention 

  • Building compost 

  • Preparing produce for distribution 

  • Infrastructure, equipment and tool repair and maintenance 

• Engage in solutions for for insecurity and unsustainable agriculture systems

Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs

• Ability to work on feet for most of the day

Sustainable Agriculture Intern

This internship is designed for students interested in education, environmental studies, curriculum development, or community outreach. Interns will help enhance the Farm’s role as an educational resource to volunteers and the broader community. 

Responsibilities 

• Research effective educational materials for adult volunteers and student groups 

• Assess Farm’s current educational programming and opportunities to suggest improvements 

• Develop accessible, engaging educational resources across a range of topics 

• Create materials related to: 

  • Sustainability 

  • Culturally relevant foods 

  • Food sovereignty and justice 

  • Regenerative agriculture 

  • Watershed stewardship 

  • Native plants and pollinators 

  • Wildlife and ecosystem health 

  • Composting 

  • Additional environmental and agricultural themes 

Student Value

Interns gain experience in curriculum design, environmental education, and community‑based learning. 

This internship offers students the opportunity to contribute to the Farm’s digital presence through strategic content development and data‑driven insights. Ideal for students interested in marketing, communications, or digital media. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop and propose creative content ideas that highlight Farm initiatives 

• Evaluate current social media strategies and recommend evidence‑based improvements 

• Produce short‑form content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube 

• Monitor emerging social media trends and identify opportunities for adaptation 

• Pitch and outline a cohesive social media series 

• Conduct research on audience engagement and platform analytics 

• Identify and organize potential collaboration opportunities with partners and influencers 

• Support expansion into additional platforms, including LinkedIn, X, and livestream channels 

• Provide feedback and coaching to on‑camera talent to enhance delivery and engagement 

Student Value

Participants gain hands‑on experience in digital strategy, analytics, and content creation while building a professional portfolio 

This internship is designed for students passionate about filmmaking, documentary production, and visual storytelling. Interns will have the opportunity to create an original film project centered on the Farm. 

Responsibilities:

• Capture high‑quality video footage that documents Farm activities and stories 

• Produce a mini‑documentary on a Farm‑related topic of personal interest 

• Develop storyboards and participate in structured creative planning 

• Optionally submit the completed film to a local film festival 

• Coordinate and host a public screening of the documentary at the Farm

Interns will complete a polished film suitable for portfolios, gain experience in production planning, and engage in community‑centered storytelling.
